Russell Fernau dies Thursday; Burial in Lusk

Russell George Fernau, 39, died Thursday, Jan. 28, at Woodburn, Ore., of a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted Monday at Woodburn, and graveside services were held at the Lusk Cemetery Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. The Reverend Fred Bolinger officiated. Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements

Casket bearers were John Niles, Melvin Grote, Kenneth Freeman, John, Fred and Ed Bruegger, all brother-in-laws of the deceased.

He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fernau at Lusk, Wyo.; March 12, 1931. He received the first 12 Years of his education in the Lusk schools, and was a graduate of the Denver Barber College.

June 3, 1951, he married Margarete Bruegger, and they made their home in Riverton until October 1951 when he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years. Following his discharge from the Navy the family made their home in San Diego, Cali., until 1965 when they moved to Woodburn. Mr. Fernau operated his own barber shop until his death.

He was very active in civic affairs including volunteer fireman, Junior Chamber of Commerce, The Dad's Club, Boy Scouts, member of Elks Lodge at Silverton, Ore., and affiliated for years with the Baptist church.

Survivors include his widow, Margarete, two sons, Kevin and Scott, all of the family home in Woodburn; his father and mother, Harry and Pauline Fernau, Lusk; one sister, Louise Niles, Cheyenne; two brothers Harry of Lusk and Richard or Lovell, Wyo., numerous nieces and nephews.
