Elwood Mathew Hawkins

Memorial services for Elwood M. Hawkins, 76, were held Monday, July 21 at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk. Rev. Tim Solon officiated with burial following in the Lusk Cemetery.

Hawkins died Saturday, July 19, 1986 in Casper. He was born Jan. 5, 1910 in Plainview, NE, the son of William T. and Viola Hawkins. He moved to Wyoming with his parents and a brother, Kenneth, in 1919.

The family lived on a homestead north of Lusk where Elwood grew to manhood. After his father's death in 1959, Elwood purchased the family homestead where he remained and worked until he retired in 1979 and moved to Lusk.

Hawkins loved all animals, domestic or wild, as well as the great outdoors. Often times he would cook extra pancakes to feed animals that came near his house. He was one of the last of the "oldtimers," a true cowboy and a friend to all mankind.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth. Survivors include: two sisters, Mary Porter of Crawford, NE, and Erma Harris of Casper; three nieces; one nephew; and a host of friends.

Memorials to the American Heart Association or the Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home will be appreciated by the family. Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
