Bertha A. Heath, Sioux Pioneer, Dies Friday

Bertha A. Heath one of the oldest and longest residents remaining in Sioux County, died Friday, May 7, at the family ranch north of Fort Robinson at the age of 83.

She was the daughter of Isabell Percy and William A. Glaze, born June 29, 1881 at Purnell, Mo., and the family moved to Sioux County to make their home in the frontier area north of Fort Robinson in 1886. She has lived there since except for one year spent in Wyoming.

The family, including an elder brother, lived for a short time at Gibbon, Nebr., before coming on to Sioux County.

On April 18, 1900, she was married to Walter E. Heath. They spent their entire married life on the ranch where Mrs. Heath resided at the time of her death and which she actively and capably managed.

Mr. Heath died July 7, 1942 and her brother, William Howard Glaze, of Bellflower, Calif., died May 29, 1963.

Mrs. Heath is survived by cousins, Arlo Percy of Crawford, and Etta Walters of Kerman, Calif., and a sister-in-law, Florence Glaze of Bellflower, Calif.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Houston Funeral Home in Crawford with burial at the Crawford Cemetery.
