Jessie June Humphreys

Jessie June Humphreys, a longtime Lusk resident, passed away Dec. 20, 1992, in Missoula, Mont. She was 89.

She was born June 21, 1903, in Knoxville, Tenn., to John A. and Alice Hughes. She was raised by her paternal grandparents, John B. and Margaret M. Hughes, in Mena, Ark. After graduating from teacher's college in Conway, Ark., she took her first teaching position in 1923 at a one-room school at Hat Creek in Niobrara County.

She married William Smith (Buzz) Humphreys of Jireh, Wyo., in 1926. Daughters Betty Jean and Lita Rose were born to this union. Buzz preceded her in death in 1937 after which she resumed her teaching career, principally in Niobrara County rural schools. She retired from teaching in 1967.

She lived in Lusk until 1980 when she moved to Stevensville, Mont., to be near her family.

She is survived by daughters Betty Jean Andrews (Seward L.) of Sacramento, Calif. and Lita Rose Wolverton (Thomas A.) of Stevensville; three grandchildren; Carmen Jean Wolverton Pedersen (Tom) of Stevensville and Bradford Todd Andrews (Clare) and Mark Louis Andrews (Jamie) of Sacramento; and six great-grandchildren; Jeff and Dawnnele Pedersen and Winnie, Marshal, Justin and Calvin Andrews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 23 in Stevensville. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
