Services for Max Heth Held Here Friday

Funeral services for Max M. Heth were held at the Peet Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Roger B. Koen officiating.

Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sometime, Somewhere". Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Pallbearers were: Lester Meade, Robert Scott, Rulo Roberts, Ed Cook, Joe Klemke and Burr Bryant. Honorary bearers were: Fred Bryant, Dudley Fields, Lue Osborn, Lee Penn, Albert Penn, Pat Miller, Marvin Miller and Z. B. Crinklaw. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Max Millom Heth, youngest child of Elwood and Mary Irlmier Heth, was born at Valentine, Nebr. January 6, 1895. He served in the U. S. Army during the first World War and after receiving a discharge in 1919, homesteaded in the Hat Creek area. He married Miss Elsie Himes in Alliance, Nebr. March 17, 1921 and they were the parents of five children. They made their home east of Hat Creek where Mr. Heth was engaged in ranching and also drove a school bus for 22 years. After Mrs. Heth's death, he stayed on the ranch and made his home with his son, John.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John Goddard and Mrs. Clarence Swope of Lusk; three sons, John, James and Rex; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Clark of Salem, Ore.; three brothers, Bill Heth of Peoria, Ariz., Grant of Cashion, Ariz., and Harry of Salem, Ore.; and 14 grandchildren.

Max Heth Takes Own Life After Long Illness


Max Heth, 66, in ill health for many years, took his own life at the ranch home in the Hat Creek community, Wednesday morning about 5:30.

He apparently shot himself with a 25-35 rifle, according to investigating officers. His son, John Heth told officers the older man got up early, and his son found him later in the chicken house.

Funeral services have been tentatively set for 2:00 p.m. Friday.
