Marshall Holifield Dies Friday in Vet Hospital at Denver

Marshall F. Holifield, 44, of Lance Creek died Friday in the Veterans Hospital in Denver of Hodgkins disease. He was stricken with the disease ten years ago. Most of the past two years have been spent in the VA Hospital in Cheyenne and recently he was transferred to Denver.

Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel Monday with John Wesley Libb of the Manville Community Church officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Mrs. LaVonne Pfeifer and Mrs. Emerson Bonner sang, "Whispering Hope" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Clem Mosier, Carl Peterson, Charles Abbott, Richard Kant, Ray Austin and Harry Brown.

Marshall Frank Holifield was born November 21, 1919 at Chadron, Nebr., the son of Julius David and Lilian Moore Holifield. At the age of eight he came to Whitman, Wyo., to make his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Carlin Moore and his uncles, Floyd and Frank Moore. He attended schools in Whitman, Manville and Lance Creek.

In September of 1940 he enlisted in the Wyoming National Guard and September 16, the unit was call into active duty. He served in the New Guinea Campaign, and was discharged February 8, 1944. February 10, 1944 he and Miss Nevada Osborn were married at Ogden, Utah. Following his discharge he worked in the oil fields for five years before returning to ranch with his uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Nevada; one son, Holly David, one daughter, Jill; his mother, Mrs. C. A. McKinnis and a half-brother, Charles McKinnis of Round Up, Mont.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Martin of Corpus Christi, Tex, and Mrs. Beatrice Cockrell of Braxton, Miss.
