Helen Elizabeth Peterson

Helen Elizabeth Peterson, age 89, of Rapid City, formerly of Edgemont, died Sept. 7, at Holland Manor Assisted Living in Rapid City.

Survivors include her three sons, Ned (Jackie) Peterson of Rapid City, SD; Ervin (Louella) Peterson of Hill City, SD; Ralph (Clara) Peterson of Edgemont, SD; daughter, Velma (Archie) Yarbrough of Hanford, CA; brother, Robert Sheaman of Lusk; sister, Esther Pearson of Lusk; care givers, Terry and Monica Holland; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Funeral Services.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Sept. 14 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edgemont, SD with Pastor Duane Duley and Pastor Edgar Bode officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery in Edgemont.

A memorial has been established in Helen's name to benefit the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edgemont, SD.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel in the Hills of Hot Springs, SD. Written condolences can be made at www.mccolleyschapels.com.

Helen Elizabeth Peterson, age 89, of Rapid City, formerly of Edgemont, died September 7, 2006 at Holland Manor Assisted Living in Rapid City.

Helen was born March 4, 1917 in Granada, MN to John and Myrtle (Mowry) Sheaman. She came to Wyoming with her family at the age of three. She attended the Cheyenne River School through the 9th grade.

Helen married Glen Peterson on November 30, 1936. The couple lived on ranches until 1942 when they bought the Burdock Store in South Dakota. That same year Helen became the Post Mistress and was so until her retirement in 1967. In 1961 she moved down to the Old Jones place and kept a few cows. After Glen died in 1990, Helen stayed on the place until 1996 when she moved to Edgemont.

After breaking her hip in October 1998 she moved to Rapid City. She stayed at the Pine Haven Assisted Living from March 1999 to May 2000. In May 2000 she moved to the Sweeney House (an extended family care giver home), then was moved to the Holland Manor and Care Center in August 2006, where she remained under the care of Terry and Monica Holland. The family is very grateful for the love and care Helen was given.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Glen; brother, Samuel Sheaman and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held September 14, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edgemont, SD with Pastor Duane Duley and Pastor Edgar Bode officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery in Edgemont.
