Effie M. "Pat" Lundy

At her request, no services were held for Guernsey resident Effie M. "Pat" Lundy, 93. However, the ashes of Pat and her husband Dean Lundy were scattered on Saturday May 28, 2005, at their beloved Sowbelly Canyon Ranch near Harrison, Neb. where they lived for 53 years. Dean, who died last June at the age of 95, and Pat celebrated 72 anniversaries together. Saturday would have been their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Pat died Monday, May 16, 2005, at Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland. She was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Hawk Springs, the daughter of Newton Ezra and Mabel Jane (Lydiatt) Blunt. She was reared and educated in Guernsey. Her mother, helped by Pat and her brothers and sisters, ran a dairy in Guernsey, while her father worked on the railroad. After high school, Pat taught in a country school where she met Dean Lundy. They were married on May 28, 1932. After they were married and Pat's brother, Floyd Blunt, returned from World War II, Pat continued teaching country school and helped Dean and Floyd work their way to degrees at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. While working at the Sioux County Extension office as a social worker, Pat earned her bachelors degree in education at Chadron State Teacher's College. She taught second grade and was special reading teacher in Lusk for many years while earning a master's degree along the way. In 1994, the Lundy family moved to Guernsey to live across the street from brother Floyd.

Survivors include two nieces and a nephew and their families; Karen Coglizer Tellevik and her husband George, and their two daughters; Douglas Coglizer, his significant other Judith Onthank, and his son; and Janet Rae Sutherland Heppell and her husband Steve, and their three children. "Aunt Pat" and "Uncle Dean" were very influential in their lives as well as lives of countless students and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean Lundy; and all of her brothers and sisters; Ray "Punch" Blunt, Ruby Schmidt, Floyd "Buck" Blunt, Evelyn "Toots" Coglizer, and Willidean "Billie" vonBose.

Cremation was under the direction of Gorman Funeral Home-Platte County Chapel of Wheatland.
