William A. "Bill" Ladwig, Jr.
Funeral services for William A. "Bill" Ladwig will be held Friday, April 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lusk with Pastor Bret Schroeder officiating. Internment will be in the Lusk Cemetery.
Bill Ladwig died April 10, 1999, at the VA hospital in Cheyenne. He was born August 13, 1923, the third child of William August Frederick Ladwig Sr. and Katherina (Glandt) Ladwig, in Hemingford, Neb.
He was raised on various farms, starting with his first years at Hemingford, then at Van Tassell, and on to the Jireh, Manville and Lusk areas.
Bill enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served in the 475th Infantry Regiment. He was a truck driver and served in the China Offensive, Central Burma, China Defensive and India Burma. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, American Theater of Operations Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, China War Memorial Badge and Ribbon.
He married Colleen Zurcher on June 12, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lusk.
Bill loved farming and worked in farming for the last 50 years. He was a natural born mechanic and liked testing and experimenting with different types of grain. His favorite pastime was overhauling and working with his John Deere tractors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, DeLyda Siefert, Olga Marie Wright, and Josephine Mabel Ladwig.
He is survived by his companion, Doris Angell; three children, William Michael Ladwig of Casper, Steven Russell Ladwig of Cheyenne, and Shelley Irene Ladwig of Harrison, Neb.; five grandchildren; three brothers, Harold of Douglas, Dick of Manville, and Jim of Wheatridge, Colo.; five sisters, Madeline Fagan of Casper, Autumn Wilson of Aurora, Colo., Ruth Drewry of Billings, Mont., Helen Van Sickle of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Lucille Orrett of Fremont, Calif.; and by many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pall bearers will be Dave Bredthauer, Dan Gaukel, Frank Ladwig, Richard Ladwig, Bill Martin, Ken Canfield and Tom Bleming.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lusk.
