Phyllis "Johns" Lambert
Memorial services for Phyllis (Johns) Lambert were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2001, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Riverside, Calif., with Rev. Maka Toomata and Rev. Isabelle Rimback officiating. She died Jan. 6 of heart disease at Orangetree Convalescent Center in Riverside. Burial was at Riverside National Cemetery.
She was born May 3, 1926 at Hemingford, Neb., the daughter of J.A. and Nellie (Badgerow) Johns.
The family moved to Harrison, Neb. in 1932. During her school years she participated in the music programs as well as other school activities and was an active member of youth groups of the Harrison Methodist Church. After graduation she worked in the office of the Sioux County Extension Service. In 1944 Phyllis moved to Lusk where she was employed as secretary - bookkeeper in the office of Midwest Hardware and Furniture Co. She became a member of the Lusk Congregational Church and for about fifteen years taught Sunday School classes, sang in small groups as well as the church choir and was frequently a soloist at weddings.
In 1960 she married John C. Lambert of Dorris, Calif. Throughout the early years of their marriage they, with their two sons, lived is several California cities and in 1973 moved to Riverside, where she continued to enjoy the life of mother and homemaker. The couple transferred to Wesley United Methodist Church and she became active in church groups and sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.
Survivors include her husband, John; a son, Mark and his wife, Monique of Perris, Calif.; a son Greg of Riverside, Calif.; a sister Ruth and her husband Darryl Manring of Lusk; a brother, Harold Johns and his wife, Mary of Scarborough, Mass.; and many nephews and nieces.
