John Walter (Jack) McMaster

John Walter (Jack) McMaster, age 67, of Broomfield, Colo., died Jan. 26 at the Boulder Community Hospital.

A funeral service was held Jan. 29 at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Chapel with Deacon Rolland Raboin of St. Rose Catholic Church in Torrington officiating.

Jack's son, Boyd M. McMaster, delivered the eulogy. Following Jack's wish, he will be laid next to his infant daughter in the Lusk Cemetery.

Jack was born on Aug. 7, 1937 in Lusk and he was adopted by Andrew and Genevieve McCabe McMaster. His more than 60 years in the Lusk area was spent ranching until his eyesight was severely impaired in 1988. He was a member of the Lusk Elks Lodge 1797. Jack served in the National Guard Reserve from Nov. 23, 1956 until Nov. 22, 1962. He served in 1st platoon Charlie Company 10th of the 22nd Engineers Battalion. He received a marksman qualification on May 22, 1960 and a sharpshooter qualification on May 6, 1962. He received a five-year state National Guard service medal upon his honorable discharge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Kara Beth McMaster who was born on Nov. 7, 1968 and passed away on Nov. 24, 1968, and infant brother James Andrew on Nov. 6, 1931.

Jack is survived by his sons, Shaun A. McMaster and his wife Therese Morin of Broomfield, Colo., and Boyd M. McMaster of Gillette; daughter, Lori L. Lewis and her husband Edward of Castle Rock, Colo.; three grandchildren, Brianna McMaster, Jared McMaster and Caden Lewis; two half-brothers, Ed Ogden of Wamsutter and Bob Ogden of St. Francis, Kan.; four half-sisters, Theo and Dale Wishon of Haigler, Nebr., Ruby and Harold (Hoot) Merchen of Rawlins, Barbara and Charles Merklin of Bird City, Kan., and Vera and Stanley Keller of St. Francis, Kan. and several nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Roger Funk, Chuck Bruch, Bob Pfister, Ed Ogden, Bob Ogden and Raymond Haworth.

Honorary casket bearers were Larry Solberg, Pat Sperry, Cody Thompson and Terry Griffith.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
