Bill Magoon, 64, dies

The funeral for William "Bill" Magoon, 64, a lifelong resident of Niobrara County, was held Wednesday at the Peet Mortuary. He died Sunday at the Lusk Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Rev. Frank Blish presided.

He was born July 23, 1913, the son of William and Elvina Lipke Magoon, on the old Magoon Ranch north of Lusk. The ranch has been in the Magoon family since 1886. It was on this ranch he spent his entire life.

Bill married Helen Vraspier of Verdel, Neb. Jan. 21, 1938. They had two children.

A member of the Lusk Congregational Church, Bill also was a charter member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and the Custer Lodge No.21, of Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He was survived by his widow Helen, a daughter, Karen Sides, Casper; a son Wes, Casper; three grandchildren and a sister Charlls Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack.

Mrs. Minerva Watson was the organist and Tim Johnson, the soloist. Songs were "Honey" and "Seasons In the Sun."

Pallbearers were Bunny Chard, Johnny Lawler, Phil Flick, Ernie Hansen, Russ Thompson, George Christian. Honorary bearers were Dick Geyser, John Bourret, Jim Hodgson, Walter Zerbst, Jim Thompson and Ray Olafson.

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Niobrara County Nursing Home.
