Harold N. Manders

Memorial services for Harold N. Manders, 81, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at St Rose Catholic Church in Torrington with Reverend Father Kevin Koch officiating. Burial followed in the Valley View Cemetery. Mr. Manders died on July 27, 2000 at the Torrington Community Hospital. The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington was in charge of the cremation arrangements. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Wyoming Lung Association.

He was born on September 29, 1918, in Oelrichs, South Dakota the son of John and Kathryn (Hemmer) Manders. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Oelrichs and attended school there. The family moved to Hot Springs in early 1937 and Harold worked at odd jobs and then joined the 109th Engineers 34 Division of the National Guard and went to Europe in WWII in the first Expeditionary Force.

He married Marjorie Martin-Kilmer on November 14, 1954, in Lusk, Wyoming and the couple lived in Lusk until 1963 when they moved to California. They returned to Wyoming in 1974 and owned and operated the Miners Bar in Hartville until 1979. They then operated the Yoder Bar in Yoder, Wyoming from 1979 until retirement in 1983 when they moved into Torrington. He was affiliated with St. Rose Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his step-son Russell and his wife Nadine Kilmer of Torrington; three sisters, Erma Hrachovec of Rapid City, SD; Ann Rogers of Garden Grove, CA; and Lenora Culver of San Diego, CA; a brother Joe Manders of Vista, CA; three step-grandchildren, Heath, Loran and Terena Kilmer; and a step-great-granddaughter Heather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, one sister Mary, and one brother Wilford.
