Service Held for Joe McConaughey

Graveside service was held last Thursday morning at 10:00 for Joseph McConaughey who died Aug. 31. Esther Bozart officiated.

Josheph Howard McConaughey was born Nov. 10, 1887, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He was the child of Isaac Newton McConaughey and Mary Magdaline (Miley) McConaughey. There were two other sons and three daughters born to McConaugheys, all of whom have preceded him in death.

"In spite of the hard work he had to begin at age fourteen, Joe was, in his younger years, a happy and jocular person, reciting poems at a Fourth-of-July picnic or dancing an Irish jig. He was a very generous and warm personality," said the family.

During World War I, Mr. McConaughey joined the Army, and last served in Camp Forrest, Georgia.

He was married on May 24, 1919, to Flora Augusta Clark, and they came through South Dakota to Wyoming to begin their married life on a farm northeast of Lusk. To them were born two sons Clark Howard and Donald Bruce and one daugher Helen Lorraine.

The family attended the First Baptist Church in Lusk, the Divide Sunday school later, and still later, the Open Bible Church at Lusk, which he helped to build.

His wife Flora preceded him in death in October, 1974. Living are his two sons and one daughter, four grand-children and four great-grand-children.
