Charles D. McWilliams

Funeral service for Charles D. McWilliams, who died shortly after a shooting incident at Mule Creek Junction March 7, was held in Edgemont at the Shared Ministry Church March 10 with the Rev. Roy S. Brown officiating.

McWilliams had been working at Mule Creek for Damson Oil Corp. as a production foreman for the last six years. He was born April 4, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a graduate of Edgemont High School and on October 31, 1964 was united in marriage to Wanda Ina Thayer in Newcastle. The McWilliams lived in Edgemont while he worked at the Black Hills Army Depot, later being transferred to Umatilla Army Depot at Hermiston, Oregon. When he returned to Edgemont, he worked for the Mines Development Corp. uranium mill until going to work at Mule Creek. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964 with three years spent in Germany.

Casket bearers were Jim Zerbst and Jim Williams of the Cheyenne River community, Bud Schneider of Mule Creek, and Wayne Petersen, Bill Porter and Ed Reutter of Edgemont. All friends were considered at honorary bearers. Private graveside rites were held at the Edgemont Cemetery.

Besides his wife Wanda, McWilliams is survived by his three sons Lafe David, a sophomore at N.C.H.S., Chris J. and Grant Philip; one daughter Laura Grace, all of rural Edgemont; his mother Agnes M. Smith of Council Bluffs, two sisters Phyllis Allen of San Gabriel, Calif. and Rebecca Ramsey of Pierce, Colo.
