Funeral services for Clyde Mendenhall, who died August 23 at a Scottsbluff Hospital, were held August 27 at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial Methodist Church in Harrison with the Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiating. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Mr. Mendenhall was born in Salem, Iowa, on April 16, 1875. His father John Mendenhall, purchased a relinquishment six miles south of Hay Springs, Nebr. and sent his son Clyde, then 17 years old, and daughter Grace to live in the dugout there until the family came the next spring.

His mother was a recorded minister of the Friends Church. His brother Paul, although 13 years younger than Clyde, was also born on April 16, and later the first grandson, Robert Bertsch, also shared this birthday which was an occasion for many family gatherings.

On April 26, 1905, Clyde Mendenhall married a teacher, Miss Mina Kurtz, in Chadron, and their home was built on a homestead 20 miles south of Harrison.

Clyde's sister died in 1907, and two of her children, Evan and Paul, became a real part of the Mendenhall family. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Dak., Mrs. Marjorie Wells of Marsland, and Mrs. Margaret Bertsch of Harrison, two sons, Paul Owens of Eagle, Idaho, and Evan Owens of Lewistown, Mont.; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Coulson of Newberg, Ore., Mrs. Ruth Millward of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Mrs. Helen MacCalla of Winter Haven, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A brother and four sisters died previously.
