Mary E. Miller
Service for Mary E. Miller, age 97, will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Scott Grimshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Miller died Monday, December 12, 1988, at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home in Lusk. She was born October 14, 1891, in Turin, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Mary Morse.
In 1911 she homesteaded in the Mule Creek area north of Lusk. She married James A. "Blackie" Miller on November 22, 1919, in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Mr. Miller worked in the oil fields of Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming where the family lived at different times.
In the mid 1920's they moved to the Ed Morse ranch near Mule Creek Junction. They lived there until Mr. Miller's death in 1940, at which time the family moved to Lusk to make their home. Mrs. Miller taught music to children in her home for many years. She entered the nursing home in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers, two sons, and two daughters.
Survivors include: four daughters, Dorothy Walker of Newcastle, Wy., Fern Bailey of Denver, Col., Mary Spencer of Lyman, Wy. and Betty Harrington of Casper, Wy.; three sons, Paul and William of Douglas, Wy., and Harry of Lexington Park, Maryland; one brother, Leslie Morse of Newcastle; 29 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorials to the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home in Lusk or to Mondell Heights in Newcastle will be appreciated by the family.
