Raymond Lee Murphy

Funeral services for Raymond Lee Murphy, 56, were held Jan. 7, 2000, at the Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, with Pastor Tim Tyler of Douglas Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas.

Raymond Murphy died Jan, 3, 2000, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Raymond Murphy was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Lusk, the son of Leo Wilson and Hazel (Valentine) Murphy. He was reared and educated in Lusk and Midwest.

He married Shirley K. Williams, Dec. 10, 1961, in Lusk. They lived in the Midwest-Edgerton area until 1967, then moved to Douglas in 1976.

Raymond worked as a well service rig operator until an injury forced early retirement in 1989.

He was a member of the Valley Pool League, and helped organize the Junior League. He enjoyed playing eight-ball, bowling, cribbage, fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Douglas; four children, Sharon Wales and husband, Jack; Ray Murphy, Jr.; Larry and wife Alicia Murphy; Derek and wife Janice Murphy all of Douglas; five brothers, Murlin Murphy, Dean Murphy and Roger "Butch" Murphy all of Casper, Donnie Murphy of Rock Springs, and Bobby Murphy of Casper; step-brother Tony Scheenan of Rock Springs and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Dennis Murphy.

Serving as pallbearers were Eddie Hegglund, Scott Hegglund, Charley Hegglund, Wayne Sides, Richard Middleton, Denny Dobson, Tom Nunn, and Jimmie Jay Hinckley.

Memorial to the Raymond Lee Murphy, Sr. Memorial Fund, 508 North Fourth Street, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.

Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
