4 Year Old Lance Creek Girl Suffocates in Ice Chest Friday

Tamera Ann Nelson, 4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Linden Nelson, was suffocated Friday afternoon about 2:00 in a picnic ice chest while playing at her Lance Creek home.

Mrs. Nelson discovered her daughter in the chest and immediately summoned help. Employees of the Marathon Oil Company were soon on the scene of the tragedy, but efforts to revive the child were hopeless. The Peet ambulance from Lusk was also called, but she was pronounced dead by Niobrara Coroner George Earl Peet.

Father Cornelius O'Connor offered Mass of the Angeles for the child from St. Leo's Catholic Church Tuesday morning. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers, Derryl Nelson, Andrew Nelson, Danny Gaukel, Kenneth Gaukel, were all cousins of Tamera.

She was born December 4, 1958, the youngest of six children.

She is survived by her parents; one sister, Nadine; four brothers, Monte and Barry of the family home, Royce and Duane of Lusk; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Charles Gaukel of Keeline.
