Ruth Newton, 81, of Sheridan died Sunday, Aug. 6, 1987. She was born in June of 1906 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Erwin. Her family moved to Worland where she graduated from high school. She later moved to Lusk with her parents where she worked at the Lusk State Bank. Her father founded it in1924.
She attended the University of Nebraska, University of Southern California, and University of Wyoming.
On February 8, 1930 she married Harold F. Newton in Lusk. In 1941 they moved to Sheridan and purchased the Jersey Creamery. They sold the creamery in 1964.
Mrs. Newton was active in many organizations in Sheridan throughout the years.
Survivors include her husband, Harold F. Newton of Sheridan, one son, John E. Newton of Salt Lake City, UT; two daughters, Ginger N. Brown, of Sheridan; Mrs. (Janet) Scott Ludwig of Story; and five grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one granddaughter.
Memorial services will be Friday, September 11 at 11:a.m. at St. Peters Episcopal Church. Rev. Canon Ray Clark will officiate. Henne Funeral Home of Sheridan is in charge of the arrangements.
Note: Although the obituary says the date of death was August 6, 1987, the Social Security Death Index lists the date of birth as September 6, 1987, which would be in keeping with the source date of September 9, 1987.
