Lena Peterson Dies April 25
Lena Peterson early resident of the Andrews community died April 25 at the Chadron Hospital from a stroke and heart condition.
Funeral services were held April 28 from Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiating. Pallbearers were Eldon Fox, Perry Bell, Gayle Oldaker, John Zimmerman, John Engebretsen and Virgil Howard. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden" were sung by Miss Lily Larsen, Mrs. John Skavdahl, Mrs. Charles Mumby, and William Renning with Mrs. Robert Todd as organist. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.
Mrs. Peterson was born November 15, 1887 at Blair, Neb., the youngest daughter of Peter and Sophie Jensen. The family moved to Kennard, Neb. when she was a small child and she attended school there.
She married Peter Peterson on July 5, 1905, at Blair and they lived with her parents on their place a while before moving to Herman. Then in 1910 they moved to Andrews and homesteaded four miles northeast and about a mile from where she had recently lived.
In 1925 she became ill with polio which left her confined to a wheel chair since. She had two children, a son Herman, and a daughter who survives and with whom she was living before her last illness.
Her husband died April 24, 1963, and her parents and three brothers and three sisters had also previously died, she being the last remaining member of the family.
