Nellie Peters Dies Suddenly

Nellie M. Peters, former resident of Sioux County, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Oct. 31, while enroute from Alliance to Scottsbluff with her son and his family.

Mrs. Peters, who was in her early 70's, apparently died following a heart attack which occurred when the motoring party was about four miles east of the Bayard Junction on Highway 26.

Mrs. Peters was born in the Goodstreak area, 22 miles west of Alliance, where her parents were pioneer ranchers. She received her formal education at Union College in Lincoln, after which she taught school near Alliance, Berea and later in Sioux County.

During her teaching employment in Sioux County she met and married the late Irvin L. Peters. He died July 13, 1965. They had lived since their 1918 marriage on a farm two miles north of Alliance on Rural Route 1.

Survivors include a son, Harlow of Denver, Colo. and two grandchildren, Judy and Douglas Peters.

Mrs. Peters was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for over 60 years and also was a longtime member of the Alliance Rural Woman's Club.

In addition to her son and grandchildren, she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harlow Peters; four nephews, Raymond Wells of Alliance, Howard Wells of Marsland, Kenneth Paul Wells of Los Angeles, Calif. A brother, Elbridge J. Wells, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Alliance Methodist Church with Elder Norman Sharp officiating. Burial was in the Alliance Cemetery.
