Funeral This Wednesday For Mrs. Verna Reed

Funeral service for Mrs. Raliegh (Verna) Reed, 75, was held this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. Mrs. Reed died December 30 at the Heather House Nursing Home in Richland, Wash.

The service was conducted by Rev. Vince McFarland with Mrs. J. P. Watson as organist. Mrs. Hobart Cockerham, and Mrs. Raime Fosher sang "Until Then," "How Great Tthou Art," and "Precious Lord."

Casket bearers were Hobart Cockerham, Steve Cockerham, Bing Barr, Roy Shimek, Teddy Stratton and Raime Fosher. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Verna May Reed was born March 6, 1898, to C. M. and Ella Dean at Whiting, Iowa. Upon learning there was free land available to anyone willing to live on it for three years her family moved to Node, in a blowing snow storm, in 1911.

Mrs. Reed taught for several terms in the Niobrara County schools, and later was deputy county assessor of Niobrara County. She married Raleigh Reed of Casper June 12, 1923.

Mr. and Mrs. Reed had one son, Richard, and after living in Casper they moved to Beatrice, Nebr., then back to Node, then to Ft. Laramie and then purchased a ranch south of Manville. In 1964 they moved to Lusk. Mr. Reed died in 1968.

Mrs. Reed was a charter member of the Lusk Church of Christ where she taught a Bible class since the Church's inception.

She is survived by her son Richard of Richland Wash., and two grandchildren.

Her husband and two brothers died previously.
