Daughter of homesteader killed in recent aviation disaster

Helen Reiling, daughter of Billie Kowalsky, who homesteaded north of Van Tassell, was killed along with her daughter, Beverly Johnson and many others in the Pan American World Airways recent aviation disaster in Santa Cruz.

Andrew McMaster, Lusk, was notified of the death by Helen Zielinski, a cousin of Mrs. Reiling now living in San Francisco, Calif. McMaster long ago purchased the Zielinski ranch.

Kowalsky ran a meat shop here in Lusk before moving to Eugene, Ore., with his family said McMaster. Mrs. Reiling, wife of Dr. F. A. Reiling a retired dentist in Eugene and Mrs. Johnson of Grants Pass, Ore., were to take a 12-day Mediterranean cruise.

Don Johnson, timber manager for Cabax Mills in Grants Pass said his wife, Bev had arranged for the Mediterranean cruise for her mother, and that they were enroute to Las Palmas, in the Canary Island where the cruise was to originate.

Mrs. Johnson was the mother of four sons, three of whom still live at home, the fourth attends Oregon State University. She was clinic nurse at Grants Pass.
