Charlotte Elaine Baars
Lifelong Niobrara County resident Charlotte Elaine Canfield Baars, 45, died last Wednesday at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Lusk, Charlotte was the first child of Charles B. and Elaine Valentine Canfield.
Charlotte spent her entire life in the Lusk area, attending school at Prairie Center and Lusk.
She married Harry J. Baars in 1952 and they made their home on the Baars ranch south of Lusk.
Mrs. Baars has long been a member of the Lutheran church and had participated in the church-sponsored vacation Bible school. She also had been an active 4-H leader in the community.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Baars is survived by four children, Lorraine Vocu of Riverton, Karen Krotz of Hay Springs, Neb., and Robyn and Kevin still at the family home; her mother and father, who reside in Lusk; three brothers, Leroy Canfield of Redgecrest, Calif., Duane Canfield of Glenrock and Kenneth Canfield of Lusk; a sister Dorothy Vollmer of Torrington; a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Beuferd Anderson of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lusk officiated at a Saturday afternoon service at Peet Mortuary.
Ruth Hahn was the organist and Barbara Hahn, Laurie Lenz, Jocelyn Stoldt and Angela Kupke were vocalists. Songs were "Jesus Lives, the Victory Won" and "Come to Calvary's Holy Mountain."
Burial followed at Lusk Cemetery.
Pallbearers were W. T. Brethauer, Ed. and Harry Baldwin, Merle Hahn, Orval Hahn and Cecil Kaan.
The family would prefer memorials to the American Diabetes Society.
