Warren H. Robertson

Funeral services for Warren H. Robertson, 75, were Nov. 19, 1996, at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk with the Rev. Gordon Swedburg officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to Lusk\Niobrara Ambulance Service.

Mr. Robertson died Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk. He was born March 10, 1921 at Sunrise, the third child of Ernest Robertson and Hattie Schooley.

He married Evelyn M. Meier Shepherd Nov. 28, 1947 at Scottsbluff, Neb. She died June 11, 1985. On Jan. 19, 1986 she married Mary E. Hammond of Lusk in Bullhead City, Ariz.

He served in the U.S. Army from July 1, 1942, until his discharge July 1, 1946. His training focused on tank operations because he belonged to the armored portion of Company B, Third Batallion, 9th Regiment which handled some of the tank operations of the third marine Division in New Zeland, the training also stressed the precise doctrine of amphibious assault. The men practice landing in special landing craft while the artillery perfected their skills. In the complicated process of amphibious landings good communication was essential. Because of his radio skills, one of his jobs was to land with the advance infantry and direct tank fire in certain areas. He participated in action in Bougainville I, BSI from Nov. 17, 1943 to Dec. 31, 1943, Guam, Marianas Islands July 21, 1944 to Aug. 11, 1944, and to Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands from Feb. 23, 1945 to March 16, 1945.

He was in partnership with the Lingle Drug Store and also ranched south of Van Tassell. His hobbies included music and square dance calling which he was active in for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Lusk, son Clyde Robertson of Van Tassell; step-daughters Kay Holmes of Van Tassell, Leah Ballou of Hulett, Evelyn Kilmer of Valentine, Neb., Carol Zerbe of Lusk and Norma Dufek of Lander; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Evelyn, sister Viola Fancher, brother Clyde Robertson and one grandson.
