Hazel Seaman

Services for Hazel Seaman, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, 1991, in the United Methodist Church in Harrison, Neb., with Rev. Joe Booker officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrison Cemetery.

Seaman died Monday, July 1, 1991, at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron. She was born Feb. 12, 1911, in Crawford, Neb., the daughter of Estle and Tina Whitman. She moved with her family to their Wyoming homestead when she was three weeks old.

She attended rural schools and graduated from Sioux County High School in Harrison, Neb. She attended the University of Wyoming and Chadron State College. In 1967, she received her master's degree from Chadron State.

She married Ollie Seaman on May 17, 1934, at the home ranch. She taught school for many years in Sheridan, Keeline, Manville, Cheyenne River and rural Niobrara County, Wyo. She also taught in the Harrison Grade School for five years and in rural Sioux County.

Her husband died on Oct. 29, 1978, at the Seaman ranch. She bought a home in Harrison in 1979 and boarded high school students. She did this for four years and also did substitute teaching in the Harrison Grade School, rural Sioux County, and the Science Department at the Junior High School in Lusk.

Seaman enjoyed square dancing and was active in the "Legend of Rawhide" pageant in Lusk since its inception. She was a member of the Rebecca lodge, the Harrison Methodist Church, the Sioux County Cowbelles, the Ladies' Community Club in Harrison and the Sioux County Historical Society.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Bob Hladky of Lusk, Oleta and Keith Zimmerman of Harrison, and Julia and Don McKelvy of Torrington; one sister, Esther Gibbs of Casper; one brother, Milton Whitman of Monte Vista, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials to the Harrison United Methodist Church, the Sioux County Historical Society or the Chardon Community hospital will be appreciated by the family.
