Ben Sherrill, 78, Dies At Casper

Ben Sherrill, 78, a resident of Wyoming for over 50 years, died at Casper Hospital on November 25, one week after surgery.

Noah Benjamin Sherrill was born at Battle Creek, Iowa on September 24, 1891, to William and Elizabeth Jane DeWeese Sherrill, the youngest of 13 children and the only son to grow to manhood. When two years of age he came with his parents to Harrison where his mother died the following year. He returned to Iowa with his father and lived with various families. He went to Kansas with one family and when 16 he joined his father at Noonan, N.D. raised wheat and worked in the coal mines.

In the spring of 1919 after his father's death he went to the Douglas, Wyo. area and worked on ranches for sometime. He ran a second hand store in Lusk for a few years then returned to Douglas and worked for the city until 1946 when he went to Casper and worked at the Saddle Rock Cafe.

He married Theresa Meehl at Douglas. She died in 1942. Survivors include a son Marvin Sherrill of Lawrenceville, Ill., a granddaughter, Theresa; several nieces and nephews among who are Mrs. Ferris Bruner and Clarence Dunn of Douglas and Edith Holden of Casper.

Services were held Nov. 28 at Bustard's Funeral Chapel in Casper and interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery beside his wife.

Mr. Sherrill was a cousin of Sam Thomas Sr. of Lusk, L. E. Sherrill of Harrison, Josie Kennedy of Crawford and Ben Radford of Torrington.
