Last Rites Held For Alice Simon
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Alice McCleerey Simon were held last Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Chapel in Lusk. She died at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Ore., May 8, at the age of 97.
Dallas Swisher of Casper officiated. Mrs. Betty Montez of Casper, accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson of Lusk, sang "Oh Walk With God" and "Jehovah Is My Shepherd." Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.
Honorary bearers were Martin Glandt, Roy McLain, Dewey McClain, Floyd McClain, C. E. Marvin, Clair Lee, and Walter Tyrrel.
Casket bearers were Otto Vondra, Charles Canfield, Dick Lee, A. F. DeCastro, Roy Turnbull and Harry Fernau, Sr.
She was born in Mapleton, Iowa, October 12, 1869. At the age of 13 the family came to Central Nebr. by wagon train.
After three years, due to the danger of the western frontier the family moved to Smithland, Iowa. Here she lived until her marriage to Allison John Simon in 1890. The family moved to Royal, Nebr., and remained there for two years. In June of 1909 the family homesteaded near Lusk. This was her home until her death, although she lived the past four years in Eugene, Ore., with her daughter, Mrs. Edith Miller, due to advanced age.
She is survived by her daughter, Edith, one son, Floyd F. Simon of Lusk; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John and one son, Clarence LeRoy died previously.
