Jennie Smith, 96, Former Resident Dies in Cheyenne

Funeral service for Mrs. Jennie Smith, 96, a 58 year resident of Wyoming, was held in Cheyenne, Tuesday.

Born at Oslo, Norway April 9, 1875, she married Fred LeRoy Smith in 1892 at Stone Lake, Iowa. They homesteaded southwest of Lusk from 1914 to 1939. They lived in Wheatland from 1939 until 1960 when she moved to Cheyenne and lived there until her death.

Survivors include a son Fred, Denver, three daughters, Mrs. Julia Utz, Santa Cruz, Calif., Mrs. Roy (Mayme) Cotton, Cheyenne and Mrs. Ernest (Dora) Robinson, Council Bluffs, Iowa; a brother Louis Sorensen, Murdock, Minn. and two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Stensland, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Nora Johnson, Wilmer, Min.

One daughter, Mrs. James (Amy) Payne, also homesteaded near Lusk and was the mother of Mrs. Malcolm Hammer, Lusk. One of Mrs. Smith's sisters was Mrs. Frank (Tillie) Smith formerly of Lusk.

Mr. and Mrs. Hammer and Louis attended the funeral. The casket bearers were her four grandsons and two great-grandsons, including Marvin Hammer, son of the Malcolm Hammers.
