Former Lusk resident Blanche Snyder dies

The funeral for a former Lusk resident, Blanche Elizabeth Snyder, was June 5 in Springview, Neb. She died at her home in Springview June 1. She was 81.

The daughter of Edward L. Snyder and Leonera Cherington Snyder. Blanche was born Oct. 28, 1896 in Pottawattmaie County, Iowa. She came to Keya Paha County, Nebraska, in 1897 with her parents.

Blanche received her education in the Springview schools and at Chadron State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in 1913 in Keya Paha County after finishing 10th grade. It was the highest grade offered at the time.

In 1914-15 she took the 11th grade and in 1916 taught in a rural school. In 1917 she was a member of the first 12-year graduating class of Keya Paha High School. She was salutatorian of her class.

For 34.5 years she taught in the Nebraska and Kansas School Districts. She also served as Keya Paha County Superintendent for 5.5 years. From the time of her retirement until her death she made her home in Springview.

Blanche was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 205, and also of the Nebraska Retired Teachers Association.

Her parents, one sister and one brother preceded her in death.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ray Harrison of Rapid City, S.D., a brother, Charles Snyder of Springview and several nephews and nieces.

Blanche was buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Springview.
