Floyd Joseph Bartos

Services for Floyd Joseph Bartos, 76, of Lusk, were scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, 1988 at the Peet Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery. He died April 17, 1988.

Mr. Bartos was born May 9, 1911, at Hemingford, NE, the son of Joseph and Minnie Wanek Bartos. The family came to Wyoming by Immigrant Train in 1914 where they homesteaded north of Lost Springs, WY. He attended a country school in the area for eight years. He then lived and ranched with his father until 1939.

On April 21, 1934 he married Esther Alexander at Hot Springs, SD.

Floyd was an avid sports fan and played baseball and softball for many years. As a young man his father Joe Bartos coached a Keeline ball team. Floyd was well-known as a baseball pitcher and played with many teams. In later years he coached a Keeline and Babe Ruth team.

He purchased the George Nelson ranch (Carl Hahn homestead) in 1940 where he lived and remained active until his death. For twenty years he worked in the oil fields, seven of these years he worked for the True Oil Company of Casper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one son, Gary; one grandson; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; three daughters, Gwendola Longbone of Strasburg, CO, Verla Etchemendy of Lost Springs, and Sheryl Jugler of Rock Springs; two sisters, Ethel Church of Aptos, CA and Merle Jennings of Wheatland; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
