Benjamin F. Sturman

Benjamin F. Sturman was born Oct. 6, 1905 on the home ranch four miles east of Lusk, the son of John and Mary Lohr Sturman. He died Feb. 14, 1984 at Natrona Memorial Hospital in Casper after a brief illness.

Mr. Sturman lived and worked on the home ranch as a young man before spending many years working in the oil field and as a carpenter. In school, he was a member of the first football team ever organized at Lusk High School and graduated with the class of 1928. He played baseball on local teams as a young man.

On Sept. 5, 1931, he married Margaret Alice DeGroot at Kimball, Nebr. and had lived in Lusk since that time.

He loved all sports and enjoyed watching and following his children and grandchildren as they participated on many different teams. He was seen at most home games even when he had no relative playing.

He enjoyed the Niobrara Senior Center and spent many hours there playing cards, working on Jigsaw puzzles, visiting and helping out with the flower garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; one son, Donald; two brothers, four sisters and one grandson.

He is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Grisham of Casper; six sons, George, Gerald, and Walter, all of Lusk; James of Upton, John of Casper and Harold of Laurel, Mont; one brother, Kenneth of Cheyenne; one sister, Orian of Bakersfield, Calif.; 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nephews.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 17, 1984 at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Music was provided by organist Minerva Watson and soloist Joy Kaltenheuser with "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," and "The Lord's Prayer."

Pallbearers were Phil Brewster, Terry Larson, Kester Akers, John Jassman, Ernest Hansen and Ronald Podolak.

Interment was in Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Niobrara Senior Center or the First Congregational Church Organ Fund.

Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
