Ruth Estelle Younkin Bass

Funeral services for Ruth Bass, 84, of Torrington, were held Oct. 15, 1999, at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk with Reverend Dale McQueen officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery

Mrs. Bass died at her home Oct. 12, 1999.

Ruth was born in Alliance, Neb., May 1, 1915, to Loyde and Stella Younkin. She attended school in Alliance until her parents moved to Hat Creek, Wyo., where they homesteaded and ranched. She attended school at Hat Creek and Buena Vista until the 11th grade when she moved to Lusk and graduated from Lusk High School in 1933.

After graduating from the University of Wyoming, she taught school for five years in Jireh, Cheyenne River and Torrington grade school.

In June 1941 Ruth married Lewis Gene Bass and they ranched near Glendo.

She served as assistant librarian for the Eastern Wyoming College from 1965 until her retirement May 11, 1979. She traveled for the International Order of Job's Daughters.

She was a member of O.E.S., Alvada No. 43, Guernsey, and Daughters of the Nile. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include one son Lewis Gene Bass of Torrington; one daughter Jannae Maddox of Torrington; grandchildren Ty and Tiffany Johnson of Torrington; sisters Nellie Jones of Alliance, Neb., Doris Leeling of Manville, and Norma Bruegger of Van Tassell; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Muriel and brothers Vernon and Roy.

A memorial was established with the proceeds being donated to disabled children.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
