Fred Thomas

Funeral services for Fred Thomas, 60, of Fort Lupton, Colo., formerly of Lusk, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 2, 1992, at the Hull United Methodist Church in LaGrange with Pastor Don Mathis and Pastor Richard Sykes officiating. Burial will be in the LaGrange Cemetery.

Thomas died in a Denver, Colo., hospital on Saturday, Aug. 29, 1992. He was born Aug. 3, 1932, at Lyman, Neb., the son of Fred and Nellie (Schooley) Thomas. He grew up and attended school at LaGrange. He was a rodeo cowboy prior to entering the U. S. Army in 1953. He served in the European theater and was discharged in 1955 and he returned to Wyoming.

He married Jean Ruffing in 1958 and they divorced in 1980. He ranched in southeastern Wyoming and northeastern Colorado until moving to Fort Lupton in 1982. He married Shirley Billings March 14, 1985, at Brighton, Colo. He was a backhoe operator until his retirement in 1984.

He was a former member of the Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association and National Oldtimers Rodeo Association.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and sons, Freddie (Ponch) Thomas III, of Fort Lupton and Wesley of Lusk, Wyo.; two daughter, Debbie Widrick of Guernsey, Wyo., and Juddee Thomas of Lusk, Wyo.; two stepsons, Richard Billings of Boulder, Colo. and Stephen Billings of LaFayette, Colo.; a brother, Tommie Thomas of Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Jo Ellen Coplea of Torrington, Wyo., and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Freda Babbitt.

Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington is in charge of the arrangements.
