Arthur L Vierk

Services for Arthur L. Vierk were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning October 31, in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Scott Grimshaw officiating. Burial with Military Honors followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Vierk died Wednesday, October 26, 1988, at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital in Lusk. He was born September 10, 1906, in Hall County, Nebraska, the son of Louie and Grace Siverly Vierk. He was raised and educated in Woodriver, Lodgepole, and Broadwater, Nebraska.

He worked as a cowboy in Nebraska and Arizona until joining the Army in May of 1942. He served in the infantry for 20 years, retiring in 1962. He saw combat duty in Italy, Guam and Germany. While stationed near Washington D.C. he helped perform the task of cleaning snow from the seats for the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy on or about May 15, 1944.

Vierk came home to Lusk on September 28, 1962. He then worked for several years on the Gene Willson ranch.

He was an avid rock hound and enjoyed working with leather. He was also a collector of numerous items.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three sisters; Viola Penfield, of Lusk, Esther Kinney of Carson City, Nevada, and Myrtle Ummel of Cairo, Nebraska; plus many nieces and nephews.
