Robert L. Wallis
Funeral services for Robert L. Wallis, 66, were held Friday, April 25, 1986 at the Congregational United Church of Christ with Reverend Robert Nunn officiating. Burial was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
The IOOF and Samuel Mares American Legion Post No. 8 conducted final rites following the services.
Wallis died Saturday, Apr. 19, 1986 at Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Mesa. AZ following an extended illness.
The son of Lawrence and Alma (Dale) Wallis, Robert was born Mar. 20, 1920 at Ross WY. He was raised on the family ranch and received his grade school education at a rural school, he graduated from Douglas High School in 1940. He attended the University of Wyoming, returned to the ranch and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Wallis was married to Irene P. Barnes on Sept. 3, 1944 and later returned to the University, graduating in 1957 with a BS degree in agriculture and education. He returned to Douglas and his ranch in the Walker Creek Community where he taught school to his four children. He also taught in Lusk for one year.
He was a member of the VFW, Woolgrowers Association, Stockgrowers, Wyoming Pioneer Association, Disabled American Veterans, University of Wyoming Alumni Association, IOOF, and Rebekah Lodge.
Wallis is survived by his wife of Douglas; two sons, Richard E. and Robert A. Wallis, both of Douglas; two daughters, Bonnie I. Millikin of Glendo and Matilda L. Young of Anchorage, AZ; one brother, Dale C. Wallis of Henderson, NV; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-granddaughter, Gail Millikin.
Memorials have been established to the Rancher's Scholarship Fund and the Congregational United Church of Christ.
