Last Rites Held For Mrs. George Wickersham

Abbie Nelson Wickersham, 88, died October 7 at Chadron. The daughter of Danish immigrants, she was born January 16, 1886, in Holt County, Neb. Later the family moved to a farm near Avon, S.D.

She received her early education in Avon and was certified to teach when she completed high school. Her 12-year teaching career took her from schools in South Dakota and Idaho to Node, Wyo. During this time she studied in the summer schools of several colleges. One year she attended Augustana College at Rock Island, Ill., where she majored in art. She homesteaded near Meadow in Perkins County, S.D. In 1919 she married George Wickersham and came to live on their ranch in Sioux County.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Eula Campbell of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mrs. Faith Dahlstedt of Arkadelphia, Ark.; two sons, George W. Wickersham and Norman H. Wickersham both of Harrison; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, William Nelson Wickersham, on March 14, 1969, and her husband George October 6, 1973.

Funeral service was held from the Harrison United Methodist Church on October 11 with the Rev. Wayne Tieszen officiating. Casket bearers were her grandsons; Bob Wickersham, Larry Wickersham, Bruce Wickersham, Scott Wickersham, Mike Wickersham, and George Serres. Todd and Major King accompanied by Mrs. Robert Todd, sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and she played "Bringing In The Sheaves."

Out-of- town relatives attending were Mrs. Campbell of Scottsdale, Mrs. Dahlstedt of Arkadelphia, and Bob Wickersham of Lincoln.
