Last Rites For Bill Wickersham

Funeral services for William Nelson Wickersham were held on March 18 at the Church of the Nativity at Harrison with Father John Dennett offering the Requiem Mass. Burial was at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Montrose.

Serving as pallbearers were Harry Serres Jr., Bob Staudenmaier, Ray Hizer, Alvin Publow, Alan Halmgren, and Richard Jordan. Nearly half of the mourners were unable to be accommodated in the church and either went to the basement or stood outside.

Mr. Wickersham had died March 14 at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver just 18 days from his 49th birthday. He was born to George and Abbie Wickersham on April 2, 1920, at Harrison. His schooling was in the Sioux County schools and he graduated from Sioux County High School in 1938. Afterward he began ranching with his brother Buster on his father's ranch north of Harrison.

He married Dorothy Andrews of Harrison on February 3, 1948. They had three children, William Robert who is a junior at Creighton University, Omaha; James Lawrence, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska; and Virginia Louise, senior at S.C.H.S.

Mr. Wickersham was a trustee of the Immaculate Conception Church of Montrose and had served on the Board of Regents of Sioux County High School for four years and was re-elected last November.

Surviving besides his widow and children are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wickersham of Harrison; two brothers George (Buster) and Norman, of Harrison; and two sisters, Mrs. Faith Dahlstedt of Arkdelphia, Ark., and Eula Campbell of Phoenix, Ariz.
