Roy O. Younkin

Services for Roy O. Younkin, 62, were held Saturday at Bustard Funeral Home, Casper.

The Rev. Stephen Day of Christ Methodist Church officiated. Burial was at 3:30 p.m. at the cemetery in Lusk with a graveside service.

Born Jan. 15, 1921 at Gering, Neb. he was the son of Loyde and Stella Younkin. The family later moved to a ranch north of Lusk and he attended a country school near Hat Creek and graduated from high school in Lusk.

Mr. Younkin was a member of the National Guard until World War II. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Middle East as a quartermaster supply technician until 1945.

He began working for Continental Oil Co. in 1946 in Lance Creek. In 1950, he transferred to Linch to work in the Light Plant and later received his electrician's license. He was a senior systems technician.

On Dec. 26, 1969, he married Alma James at Powell.

Mr. Younkin was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 2291 of Midwest.

Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Diana Jenkins and two sons, Bill Younkin and Bob Younkin, all of Gillette; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Vernon and Roy Younkin, brothers reared on a ranch north of Lusk where their parents homesteaded, died recently only a few days apart. Vernon Younkin died January 31 in Oregon and Roy, the younger of the two brothers, died at Sussex on February 9.

The sons of Loyde and Blanche "Stella" Younkin, Vernon Leslie Younkin was born Nov. 3, 1916, at Alliance, Neb., and Roy O. was born Jan. 15, 1921, at Gering, Neb. They have five surviving sisters, Merle Ortez of Dayton, Ohio, Ruth Bass of Lusk, Doris Leeling of Manville, Nellie Jones of Alliance, Neb., and Norma Bruegger of Van Tassell.
