Mildred Clara Zerbst

Funeral services for Mildred Clara Zerbst, 92, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at the Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel in Douglas, with Pastor Tom Strock of the First Baptist Church in Lusk officiating.

Mrs. Zerbst died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

She was born March 30, 1913 in Harrison, Neb. the daughter of Walter and Katherine (Winterhale) Meier. She graduated from the Sioux County High School in Harrison, Neb. in 1930. She taught at rural elementary schools. She was married to Walter F. Zerbst on May 21, 1933 in Harrison. They ranched north and east of Lusk, where she was active in the ranching operation and did all of the cooking at the ranch. She was a master cook and gardener, and was still gardening at the age of 87. She loved flowers .and large family gatherings, where she prepared the entire meal. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Lusk. She loved dancing a beautiful waltz with her loving husband and partner of 72 years. They moved to Lusk in 1973 to a new home that Walter had built. They loved to travel in their retirement years to many places, including a trip to Alaska.

She is survived by her three children, Melva and husband Leroy Christianson of Lusk, Delbert and wife Linda Zerbst of Black Hawk, S.D., and Karlene Weeden of Lewistown, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Valerie Wasserburger, Kelly Christianson, Lori Milke, Curtiss Christianson, Douglas Zerbst, Kristal Kuhnel, Dennis Zerbst, Cheri Fulton and Monte Weeden; and 41 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter on May 16, 2005; two sisters, Lorraine and Evelyn; and one brother, Walter Jr.

A memorial to the Niobrara County Library in Lusk, Wyo. would be appreciated by the family.

Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas is in charge of the arrangements.
