Mass for Christian burial for Leo Austin Deuel, age 84, was held Saturday, April 28, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. at the Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Wheatland, Wyo., with Fr. J. E. Maroney as celebrant. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 1990 with Fr. Patrick Shea as celebrant. Rosary was recited Friday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Platte Funeral Chapel.

Deuel died Wednesday, April 25 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 20, 1905, to John A. and Mariam (Nelsen) Deuel in Harrison, Neb. He was reared and educated in the Lusk and Van Tassell, Wyo. areas.

He worked for an oil company at Lance Creek, and later was transferred to Auruba, Dutch West Indies; from there he worked in a ship yard in California during World War II. After that time he managed the Oasis Bar in Lusk. In September 1948 he married Anna May Sorensen, and the couple moved to Wheatland in 1949, and at the time operated the J.B.'s Liquor Store, later building the new location and starting the LeAnn's Package Liquor Store.

He was a charter member of the Society of the Mayflower, a member of the Moose Lodge, Lions Club and the Lusk Elk Lodge. He is survived by three nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anna in December 1980, four sisters and one brother.

Serving as pallbearers in Wheatland were: Ray Hunkins, Bill Jones, Jack Hildrebrand, Carroll Card, Bob Memmer, and Joe Howard.

Serving as pallbearers in Lusk, Wyo. for the graveside service were: Chuck Smith, Doug Sides, Jim Graves, Everett Kilmer, Richard Schnorenberg and Steve Kant.

A memorial has been established to the Saint Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington, Wyo.

The Platte Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
