Guernsey Man Killed Sat. In Wreck South of Lusk

Julius N. Dobbs of Guernsey, who would have been 81 November 3, died as the result of injuries suffered in a one-car roll over 9.4 miles south of Lusk on Highway 85 Saturday evening about 6:20.

He was alone and had been hunting, apparently, returning with both a deer and antelope in a Ford Bronco. Weather was somewhat foggy at dusk and the pavement was wet. According to investigation of Patrolman Johnny McCoy, the vehicle first went onto the grass on the right shoulder as another car approached, then swerved across the road and rolled into the borrow pit. The man was thrown out and lay 60 feet from where the car rested.

Les Kleman and his daughter Karen, 19, of Chadron, Neb., riding in an approaching car saw the accident and stopped to assist, and Patrolman McCoy said both Miss Kleman and another youth, Don Murphy, 17, of Torrington who had also stopped, gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation very effectively.

Blake Ford and Robert Barribeau responded with the ambulance, but Dobbs was declared dead upon arrival at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital, apparently from head injuries.

Mr. Dobbs was the second highway fatality in Niobrara in 1970, and the accident was not far from the first fatality. July 22 Albert Miller, New London, N.C., died of injuries received July 21 in a two-car, head-on collision 81/2 miles south of Lusk on Highway 85.
