Jack Fero Passes Away Today; Last Rites at Douglas

Months of intense suffering from a cancerous condition of the bone were ended here this (Thursday) morning at 10:30 o'clock when Jack Fero, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fero, passed away at the family apartment in this city. The deceased, 18 years, 8 months and 8 days of age, had been afflicted with the unusual disease since last November, and had been under almost constant care of physicians since the first of the year. Every known method of treating the malady was resorted to but the condition became gradually worse as time passed.

The young man, popular with all residents of this locality because of his genial personality and his outstanding performance in the Lusk High School band, had lived here with his family for the last five years with the exception of six months spent in California this year. Jack returned to this city two months ago, when it was learned little hope was held for his recovery. His decline since then was rapid.

Survivors are his parents, two sisters, Patricia and Shirley of this city, and one brother, Rex of Milwaukee, Wis. besides other distant other relatives.

The remains of the deceased were placed in charge of the Hoffman Mortuary at Douglas.and taken to that city at noon today, where they will be prepared for burial.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Douglas although all arrangements have not yet been completed. Jack was born at Milwaukee, Wis., on Dec. 20, 1922 but had lived in the west most of his life. The entire community extends sympathy to the bereaved family in this time of deep sorrow and mourns the loss of one of its finest young citizens.
