Virgil Shoopman Dies On Street Early Saturday

Virgil D. Shoopman, 47, of Lusk was stricken with a heart attack on the street in downtown Lusk at 7:00 A.M. Saturday. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Theodore Foster officiating.

Dr. Richard Collins sang as a solo, "The Lord's Prayer" and a quartet composed of Lee Johnsonbaugh, Al Davenport, Don Unruh and Dr. Richard Collins sand "Beyond the Sunset" and "Nearer My God To Thee." Organist was Mrs. J. P. Watson.

Pallbearers were James Grove, Ted Pennington, James Pennington, Wm. Summers, Floyd Bartos and Mike Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Everett Brooks, Roy Pennington, James Smith, Harry Vickory, Wm. Morey, Melvin Nelson and Otto Bible.

Virgil Delmer Shoopman, son of D. S. and Jessie (Myers) Shoopman, was born at Cairo, Nebr., February 5, 1912. In his childhood the family moved to Niobrara County where he has resided since. Virgil graduated from the Manville schools in 1930 and also took Norman training and taught one year.

He entered oilfield work at Lance Creek field and has followed such work throughout his life. He was a member of the Congregational Church and at one time was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

On December 25, 1931 Virgil married Bernette Alice Schmer in Manville. One daughter, Dorothaline Lucille, was born October 24, 1934.

He is survived by his parents, his wife and daughter and three grandchildren, Sharon, Lucille, Brad James and Thomas Lee Pennington of Laramie.

Burial was made in the Cairo, Nebr. cemetery beside his brother, Harold who died November 1939.
