Robert Ferris Dies Sunday; Is Second Member of Family to Die Within 10 Days

Robert Ferris, ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ferris of Manville, died in Lusk Sunday afternoon. He died of pneumonia after being stricken by a paralysis believed to have been polio. He was the second child in the family to die within the past ten days. His sister, Carol Ann, died April 4 from a disease also suspected to be polio.

SCHOOL CLOSED

Because of the two deaths the Manville Grade School was closed this week. It is pointed out by Dr. E. L. Lindahl, Niobrara County Health officer, that the school was not closed because of medical reasons. L. E. Johnsonbaugh, Niobrara Director of Education, said the school was closed because of the emotional strain of the pupils and teachers and because the school only would have been operated two days this week.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery. A quartet composed of the Misses Dixie Foley, Bari Lee Kraft, Bonnie McKelvey and Alberta Fietz sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "In the Garden." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Casket bearers were Keither Kapr, Bob Eutsler, Wilbur Quick, Merlin Frye, Paul Parmely and Bob Gladson.

Robert Ferris was born June 24, 1946 at Lusk. He lived his entire life in Manville and was a member of the Manville 5th grade.

Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Lloyd Tschacher of Manville; four brothers, Clifford of Lusk, James and Lawrence of the family home, and Billy serving in the U. S. Navy stationed in Hawaii. A grandfather Lee Walts of Hat Creek, and a grandmother, Mrs. Anna Ferris of Inman, Nebr. also survive. One sister previously died.
