Mattie Jane Smith

Mattie Jane Smith was born in Nemaha county, Nebraska, June 25, 1868. She was the daughter of John K. and Harriett Smith.

On April 15, 1886, she was united in marriage to Charles Marion Swope in Nemaha, Nebraska. To this union seven children were born. In 1907 they moved to Crawford, Nebraska by wagon train. In 1910 they moved to Wyoming where they lived until she died at her home Tuesday, at 11 o'clock March 11th at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 20 days.

She is survived by four sons; John Swope of Whitman, Wyo., Walter Swope of Leverette, Wyo., Lee Swope of Centralia, Washington, Fay Swope of Lusk, Wyo.; two daughters, Cora Leeling of Flattop, Wyo., and Velma Hamlin of St. Marie, Idaho. One sister in Abeline, Kansas, one brother in Missouri and other relatives. One daughter Rosa Chard preceded her in death April 6, 1922.
