Jim Boner Killed in Car Accident; Funeral Service Here on Monday
Funeral service was held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel for Jim Boner, 44, who was killed in a one car accident six miles south of Rapid City at about 2:20 Friday morning.
Pennington County deputy sheriff reported to the Rapid City Journal that Mr. Boner was alone when his car hit a Spring Creek bridge rail, overturned and slid on its top the length of the bridge. He was thrown from the car, officers said and was probably killed instantly.
The Rev. Robert Boutwell, officiated at the service with James Willson, soloist, singing "The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. Judson P. Watson accompanying him on the organ.
Casket bearers were Richard Lenz, John Sturman, Richard James, Henry Wasserburger Jr., John DeGering, Leonard DeGering, R. G. Montgomery and Everett Kilmer. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery with military honors by Weiten Dupes Post #4 American Legion. A memorial will be decided later by the family.
James Duane Boner, son of Jess Boner and Mrs. Izetta (P. Rensvold) Boner, a pioneer family in this Lusk area, was born in Hot Springs, S. D., November 7, 1928.
He was raised in Niobrara County attending grade and high school here, graduating with the Lusk High School class of 1946. He also attended Rapid City National School of Business and Barnes Business School in Denver.
He served in the Korean War and was released in 1952.
Mr. Boner and Betty Lee Gatliff were married November 20, 1955, and except for several years when they lived in Denver have made their home on his ranch in the Hat Creek area.
Mr. Boner was active in the American Legion, V.F.W. and the Elks.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, his mother, Mrs. Izetta Boner, Lusk; two brothers, Bob of Glenrock and Ed of Lusk; seven nieces and six nephews. His father previously died.
