Bill Powell dies at Phoenix on Sunday

William M. (Bill) Powell, 59, longtime former owner and operator of Powell Hardware in Harrison, died Sunday afternoon about 1:30 at St. Luke's Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., of heart failure.

He and Mrs. Powell had gone to the Southwest for the winter, and he had become quite active again after a previous heart attack here at home the past year. After suffering another attack at Phoenix he had been taken to the hospital and was being prepared for surgery when he died.

Funeral services are pending for the latter part of this week at Harrison in the United Methodist Church.

A daughter Jody, who had been in Harrison for the spring break from college, flew to Phoenix after learning Saturday of his condition and arrived Sunday morning. A son John of Laramie, who was in Washington, D. C., attending a conference, flew to Phoenix arriving later Sunday.

The E. E. Whiteakers had been vacationing in the Phoenix area and had visited the Powells. They remained over to be with the family.
