Mercedes Pearl "Merf" Peery

Services for Mercedes Pearl "Merf" Peery, 73, were held Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Pastor Mark Lohr officiating. Mrs. Peery passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at Central Wyoming Hospice.

She was born May 19, 1935 at the Park Ranch near Sundance, WY the duaghter of Amos and Helen (Warner) Ewing. She graduated from Sundance High School in 1953.

After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator in Sundance and Newcastle.

On Dec. 18, 1953, she married Marion Thompson in Rapid City, S. D. They lived at several locations as they both worked for the telephone company. Together they had four children. They later divorced.

On Nov. 23, 1973, she married James Allen Peery in Sundance, Wyo. They made their home in Lusk. They traveled around Wyoming working road construction. They later divorced.

She worked as a dietician at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital until she retired due to ill health. She enjoyed reading, painting, watching John Wayne movies and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son Brett of Whitewood, S.D., daughter Marla Zhelbakova of Casper, son Royce Thompson of Lusk, daughter Rita Thompson of Averill, Minn., step-daughters Allene Reiter and Janie Brewington of Billings, Mont., and their families, granddaughter Melissa Thompson of Woodbridge, Virginia, grandsons Jerod Thompson, Kyle Thompson and Levi Troutman all of Casper, Drew Thompson of Forest City, Iowa, and Kory Thompson of Lusk, two great grandchildren, sister Gail Fall of Belle Fourche, S.D., brother Dorman Ewing of Saratoga and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY 82601, would be appreciated by the family.

Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
